JCHS STAR Olivia Aldridge

Jasper County High School’s STAR student is Olivia Aldridge.

Senior class vice-president, Miss Aldridge has been in marching band throughout high school, acting as section leader and band captain. She has also been a member of the speech and debate team and has played varsity soccer and tennis. She has been the girls’ soloist for literary for two years. 

“Last summer I was a participant in the Governor’s Honors Program in the area of Communicative Arts. I have always been very involved in my church’s youth group, choir, and bell choir.  This spring I plan to participate in the poetry out loud competition and the drama department’s spring play. “I am still undecided where I will be going to school in the fall.

As to why she chose Mr. Patrick as her STAR teacher, Miss Aldridge said, “Mr. Patrick sets challenging expectations for all of his students and he refuses to coddle anyone. In an education era where the emphasis is on statistics, this is refreshing. In a small community, it might be easy to accept mediocrity in students. But, Mr. Patrick expects excellence. I always feel intellectually stimulated after leaving his class.

 

“Mr. Patrick nominated me for the Governor’s Honors Program, an experience which has opened my eyes to new possibilities in education. With his guidance I have grown more confident in what I am most passionate about—writing.”

Upon being chosen STAR teacher, Mr. Patrick said, “I have had the pleasure to know and educate Olivia for the previous two years as her American Literature and AP English Language and Composition teacher. In addition, I have overseen Olivia’s role as an officer for our school’s BETA Club, serving as the club’s secretary and later has the club’s vice-president.
