‘Canes Beat Rival Putnam
The Monticello Hurricanes boys basketball team won over neighboring rival Putnam County War Eagles, 53-49 Friday.
This was the seventh region game for the ’Canes this season, and they are currently in second place in their sub-region.
Head coach Ernest Scott said, “We played a great defensive game with far less turnovers than in previous contests.”
Quinton Standifer lead all scorers with 15 points, Jordan Stone had 12 points, Qua Thurmond also had 12 points, and led with 15 rebounds.
This is Thurmond’s tenth double-double of the season.
Also adding to the score were JaQuavious Standifer with 6 points and 7 rebounds, Tra Jackson had 4 points and 5 assists, Deon Epps had 3 points, and Quintavious Sanders chipped in 1 point.
The ’Canes are scheduled to host Taylor County Friday, Jan. 25 with games beginning at 6 p.m.
