Guns Are Stolen from Homes

Two homeowners reported the theft of weapons last week, according to information received from the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO).

A resident on Barnes Mountain Road reported the theft of a .45 caliber western style Ruger along with a box of .45 caliber ammunition. Another resident, on Van Morrison Road, reported the theft of a 30/30 Marlin deer rifle.

Other criminal activity reported by the JCSO included the following:

•On January 7 a resident on Blue Heron Drive, in Rollingwood Cove, reported the theft of a BB Gun and a Gerber knife.

•On January 8 a resident on Herring Gull Drive, also in Rollingwood Cove reported the theft of a Honda motorcycle.

•On January 8 a resident on Hwy. 212 West reported that his 2002 Dodge Ram truck along with two global positing systems, two Ipods, a Pioneer radio and a child booster seat had been stolen.

Also, during the period of January 8-15 the JCSO reported the following arrests:

•John Wyles Andrews, 47, Monticello—Jasper Superior Court bench warrant.

•Michael Randy Brake, 51, Newborn—aggravated assault. (A report in last week’s paper about an altercation between Mr. Brake and Jerry Lewis Crowe on the roadside of Hwy. 142 mistakenly listed Mr. Brake as Michael Randy Blake. His last name is Brake. The News apologizes for the error and any confusion that may have been caused by it.)

•Derek Andrew Babb, 34, Blairsville—probation violation.

•Tiffany Gayle Gillette, 36, Snellville:  Criminal damage to property in the second degree, theft by taking and possession of marijuana less than one ounce.

•Terry Steven Bagwell, 56, Snellville:  Criminal damage to property in the second degree, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon or first offender and theft by taking.

•Kerry Britt Treadwell, 44, Monticello:  Probation violation.

•David Allen Nash, Jr., 24, Jackson: Probation violation.

•Lori Elaine McGuire, 29, Monticello:  Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and tail light violation.

•Brandon Wayne Herndon, 19, Monticello:  Hold for warrant in Gwinnett County.

During this same period deputies with the JCSO responded to 198 calls for service including 68 stopping suspicious person/vehicle, 15 alarm, 14 subject needs officer, eight each assist motorist, checking location, livestock on road and threatening/harassing calls, seven mechanical break down, six domestic, five accident, four each escort or convoy, juvenile complaint, trouble unknown and attempt to serve warrant, three each burglary, pick up prisoner/subject and extra patrol, two each courtesy, wanted/stolen indicated, be on the look-out and welfare check, one each fight, intoxicated driver, special detail, theft by taking, chest pain, four wheeler, child custody case, discharge firearms, music/noise complaint, argument, persons refuse to leave, abandoned vehicle, stalking and fraud/theft by deceiving.

Also during the period mentioned above, the Monticello Police Department (MPD) reported the following arrests:

•Alonzo Ammons, 36, Monticello:  Stop sign violation and driving while license suspended or license violation.

•Sheldon Heath Yarbrough, 44, Winterville:  Hold for warrant at Elberton Police Department.

•Montonia Anteon Thurman, 31, Monticello:  Open container, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, tail light violation and turn signal violation.

•Marvis Armel Wyman, 32, Monticello:  Probation violation and obstruction of an officer (two counts).

•Shirley Wise Benton, 53, Monticello:  Public drunkenness, obstruction of an officer and disorderly conduct.

•Roderick Lewis Bullard, 32, Monticello:  Simple battery.

During this same period officers with the MPD responded to 82 calls for service including 34 stopping suspicious person/vehicle, five each accident and escort or convoy, four each alarm, subject needs officer and argument, two each domestic, crowd disbursement and extra patrol, one each dog disturbance, burglary, assist motorist, livestock on road, intoxicated driver, fire, theft by taking, unconscious, assist invalid, welfare check, juvenile complaint, discharge firearms, music/noise complaint, gas drive off, vandalism of property, attempt to serve warrant and 911 hang up.

The Georgia State Patrol also reported the following arrests during the above mentioned period:

•Earley Johnson, 66, Monticello:  Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs

.•Terry Durand Brown, 37, Monticello:  Giving false name or address to a law enforcement officer, seat belt violation, probation violation and failure to appear bench warrant.
