HOME LOST

The home of Ethel Thomas was destroyed by fire late Tuesday, and nine people lost their home in the blaze.

The cause of the fire was children putting paper in the wood heater, according to Fire Chief Jarrett Slocumb. The burning paper fell out of the heater, causing the house to go up in flames.

Firefighters from Station 3, Monticello; Station 5, Piedmont; Station 4, Hillsboro; Station 2, Shady Dale; and Station 1, Jackson Lake responded. Firefighters were on scene about five hours, and returned Wednesday morning to put out hot spots.
