‘Canes Place Second in Tournament

The Monticello Hurricane basketball team participated in the Union Grove Holiday Tournament December 27-29 taking second place after the final game.

The ’Canes beat Harris County 71-64 with Jordan Stone leading all scorers with 21 points.

Following Stone were Qua Thurmond with 18 points and 13 rebounds, Quinton Standifer 15 points, Tra Jackson added 7, Jaquavious Standifer 6, and Cordea Dennis chipped in 2.

The ’Canes faced Locust Grove on day two of the tournament.

Thurmond lead the ’Canes with 15 points, and 14 rebounds. He also posted his sixth double-double of the year. Quinton Standifer also had 15 points and five rebounds, Stone added 8, Jackson 4 and Dennis, Chris Porter, and Jaquavious Standifer each added 2.

The ’Canes fell to Woodward Academy in the championship game 73-61.

Stone lead all scorers with 16 points, Porter scored 12 points and 11 rebounds, Thurmond and J. Standifer each had 10 points. Q.

Standifer had 8 points, Jackson added 3 and Jaylan Sands had 2. “The Hurricanes had a great tournament, and are looking forward to continuing their regular play,” according to head coach Ernest Scott.

The ’Canes next game is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 4, at home against Lamar County.
