Mat ’Canes Win Six Straight

After getting off to a bit of a slow start to the season due to injuries and weight lineups, during the last week the ‘Canes took their season-to-date record from 5-5 to 11-5.
Their latest action took place Saturday when they traveled to Warner Robins to compete in the Veteran’s Duals and took first place by winning all four matches.
They defeated Howard 54-27, Warner Robins 56-18, Northside 45-30 and won the tournament championship by besting Perry 46-30.
Wrestlers who went undefeated in the tournament included Junior Justin Bradley at 126 pounds, Senior Jordan Weaver at 145, Senior Oscar Sandoval at 182, Sophomore Chase Helms at 200, and Freshman Tyler Seawright as a heavyweight.

Head Wrestling Coach Andy Rewis said, “We did get off to a slow start, but we’re beginning to put things together. We wrestled really well in Warner Robins and won all four matches.”
Senior Patrick Clement was back in action from the injury list. Coach Rewis said, “Pat did wrestle this weekend, but he’s not a hundred percent yet. The only match he lost was in points to a wrestler from Howard who transferred there from Florida, where he placed in the state last year. Pat’s a tough competitor and if there’s any opportunity for him to be on the mat, he’s going to be out there.”
Clement was voted the team captain for the second year in a row, and Bradley was voted in as the second captain.
The team was scheduled to travel to Watkinsville to face Oconee Tuesday, too late to report the results in this edition.
This Friday and Saturday the ‘Canes are also scheduled to host the Hurricane Duals Tournament at the high school. They will wrestle four times on Friday night beginning at 5:30 pm, and five times on Saturday beginning at 9:30 am.
Coach Rewis and the ‘Cane Wrestling Team extended an invitation to all, to see some non-stop action this Friday and Saturday.
