Steve Jordan Is Honored For Service to Hospital

Steve Jordan was honored at a reception Tuesday at Jasper Memorial Hospital as he steps down after 20 years of service on the Jasper Health Services Board.

More than two dozen well-wishers attended the afternoon ceremony where JMH administrator Jan Gaston reviewed Mr. Jordan’s service to the board through ups and downs.

Mr. Jordan, a native of Jasper County, moved back to the county in August, 1992. He was appointed to the Hospital Authority in February, 1993, and served through the expansion of the nursing home, and the establishment of the Primary Care Center, the physicians office located at the hospital.

Tough financial times befell the hospital, and Mr. Jordan had a role in determining how to keep the hospital in the community. In 1999 JMH entered a interim management agreement with Oconee Regional Medical Center (ORMC), which has been modified and strengthened today. In 2000 JMH became a Critical Access Hospital which helped its funding status. Then in 2006, local funding was in jeopardy, and he worked with the hospital leadership to maintain county funding.

“As we look back, Steve has been a constant guiding rock with wise guidance and counsel. There is no greater advocate, leader, and supporter than Steve. Through many challenges he has maintained a calming spirit. We are very proud he has served JMH, The Retreat, and the PCC over the course of 20 years. There is no doubt we would not be where we are today without his efforts and commitment to the facility,” said Mrs. Gaston.

Alison Hildebrant will serve as the chairman for the Health Services Board, and David Leach is a new member of the board.
