Robert Clyde Allen

Robert Clyde Allen, 76, of Macon, died Friday, November 23, 2012, at his home after a courageous two year battle with cancer.

Mr. Allen, a native of Monticello, was born on April 18, 1936, to Mildred Kelly Allen and the late Robert Eugene Allen, Jr.

He graduated from Emory at Oxford High School, attended the University of Georgia, and was a graduate of the John A. Gupton School of Mortuary Science. His career in funeral services took him and his family to Macon, Tifton, and Atlanta, and he retired from Aurora Casket Company in 2003.

He and his wife resided at Lake Sinclair for the past twenty-three years, moving to Macon in early 2012.

Mr. Allen was a former member and Past President of the Georgia Academy of Graduate Embalmers, a member and Past President of the Georgia Funeral Supply Salesmen’s Association and the Past Presidents’ Club. He was an honorary member of the Georgia Funeral Directors Association. Mr. Allen was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Tifton, a member of the Scottish Rite Body, York Rite Body, and the Yaarab Shrine Temple in Atlanta.

He was a member of Milledgeville First United Methodist Church where he served as a communion usher. He also enjoyed volunteering for Meals on Wheels.

Mr. Allen is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Marilyn May Allen of Macon; a daughter, Kelly Allen Solomon and her husband, Steve of Macon; a son, Gene Allen of Cumming; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Schorr and her husband, Bobby, of Savannah; and Peter Solomon and Mary English Solomon, both of Macon; and mother, Mildred K. Allen of Monticello.

He is also survived by two sisters-in-law and their husbands, Bootsie and Allan Brittain of Jackson and T. J. and Randy Hodges of Spring City, Tennessee, as well as several cousins, nieces, and a nephew.

Mr. Allen was a loving and devoted husband, father and, most especially, grandfather. He took great pleasure and pride in anything related to his family and his yard. He received comfort and joy from his loyal and devoted dachshund, Opie.

Funeral services were held Monday, November 26, 2012, at the Milledgeville First United Methodist Church in Milledgeville with Dr. Mike Cavin and Dr. Jay Hodges officiated. Interment was will be held, Monday, November 26, 2012, at 2 p.m. at West View Cemetery.
