Mat ’Canes Open Season With Wins

In their latest action the mat ’Canes traveled to Milledgeville Saturday to wrestle in the Baldwin Brawl, where they went 3-1 to capture second place in the tournament, behind Jones County, a AAAAA classification.
Prior to this match the team has participated in two other tournaments and scored a win over Northside of Warner Robins, another AAAAA school. Their record season-to-date is 5-5.
Head Wrestling Coach Andy Rewis said, “Right now we’re wrestling pretty good, but we haven’t gotten our weight plan like we want it yet, so that we can get the right wrestlers in the right weight class. Plus we have some injuries.
“Emory Cline is out and so is Patrick Clement. Right now our seniors are carrying the team, and doing a good job. By mid-December we should be healthy, have our weight classes lined up, and be competing up to our potential.”
The team was scheduled to host GMC, Greene County, and Rutland Tuesday night, too late to report the results in this edition.
Also, this Saturday the team is scheduled to travel to Warner Robins to compete in the Veteran’ Duals with action getting under way at 9 a.m.
Next Tuesday, Dec. 4, the team is scheduled to travel to Watkinsville, for a match versus Oconee County beginning at 4:30 p.m.
Team members include seniors Victor Bautista, Patrick Clement, Alex Davis, Brian Harper, Oscar Sandoval, and Jordan Weaver; juniors, Justin Bradley, Emory Cline, Montona Dozier, Tristin Harper, Tyler Mote, Dean Smith, and Danny Villanueva.
Also, sophomore Chase Lewis; and freshmen Harley Alter, Chris Anglin, Willie Cosby, Brice Crawford, Nick Harris, Peyton Harwood, Matt Hollis, Jake Hooser, Justin Lewis, Noe Ortiz, and Tyler Seawright.
