Oscar Lee ‘Bro’ Williams

Oscar Lee “Bro” Williams died October 23, 2012 at Newton General Hospital in Covington.

Mr. Williams was born March 23, 1951, in Macon, the son of the late Grover and Gertie Mae Glover Williams.

He was educated in the Jasper County School system, and graduated from Jasper County Training School in 1969. That school was later named Washington Park School. He was employed at Georgia Pacific and worked with Monticello Contracting where he learned his carpentry skills. Mr. Williams enjoyed fishing and having fun with his friends.

Survivors include a special friend and devoted companion, Vernita Alexander; a son, Reginald Stevens, Sr. of Atlanta; three grandsons, Cruz Holt, Zavier Shivers and Reginald Stevens, Jr., and a number of other relatives and friends, including three very special friends, Vernon L. Davis and Mary and Calvin Vinson.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 27, at New Bethel Grove Baptist Church in Monticello, with the Rev. Lucious Solomon officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers and flower bearers were members of the class of 1969.

Smith & Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
