Cougar Middle School Football Caps Successful Season
Piedmont Academy’s Middle School football team closed out its 2012 season with the Cougars accomplishing many of their goal this fall.
“I wanted to commend each one of these young men on how hard-nosed and how tough they each played all year long,” said coach Wes Tanner. “We constantly played teams with more players and bigger teams all year, but our guys never backed down from any challenged.”
The Middle School Cougars went toe-to-toe with a Gatewood team, which had not been challenged all year, and gave the Gators everything they could handle, the coach said.
“We had a set game plan that took a ton of execution on our part and our players followed it as well as any team I have ever coached,” Tanner said.
“We played inspired all year long and never let the circumstances dictate how we played. I’m so proud to have coached them this year and hope to coach all of them for years to come.”
The eighth grade class for this year’s squad helped provide the leadership and will now move up to the varsity level. The eighth graders complete their middle school careers with a record of 15-4.
“Our eighth graders have been great leaders and great role models for our younger players,” Tanner said.
“They can really be a part of a special thing here at Piedmont in all sports. Coach Alvin Hawkes and myself are so proud of this great group of young men who gave it their all and did things the Piedmont way each and every day.”
