Cougars Begin Region Schedule At Home Friday
After a tough non-region slate, the Piedmont Academy football team will begin its quest for another region title this week.
The Cougars host Dominion Christian Friday at 7:30 p.m. after a bye week. The game is the Region 4-AA opener for both schools.
Even during the off week, Piedmont began preparing for the challenge Dominion will face.
“We have already looked at a good bit of film,” coach Rhett Farmer said Sunday. “They are very talented offensively. They are throwing it about 80 percent of the time.”

Defensively, Dominion will primarily use a seven-man front as well as some 4-4 scheme.
“They are a pretty good team,” Farmer said. “They are scoring a lot but are struggling some defensively. They are going to try and spread you out. Their quarterback has several talented receivers to throw it to. We have to play sound defensively. We have to avoid turnovers when we have the football. We really don’t want to get in a shootout with them.”
The Cougars used their bye week to “heal up,” Farmer said and to begin scout work for this week’s foe.
“We are trying to get healthy,” the coach said. “We did some inner squad work. We are trying to get our younger kids better while also getting our older guys plenty of work. It was a productive off week.”
Piedmont will have only two region foes this fall as Arlington, scheduled to face the Cougars Oct. 26, does not have a football program this season.
“Right now, we are just focusing on improving and trying to see if we can do well in the region,” Farmer said. “We’ve played some tough teams this season so hopefully that experience will help us down the stretch.”
