Middle School Lady Cougars End Season with Win

The Piedmont Academy Middle School softball team put the finishing touches on the 2012 season with a 3-0 win against Gatewood on the road last week.

O’Neil Sealy earned the victory working five innings with four strikeouts. She allowed just three hits. Lauren Mosley worked one inning and recorded two strikeouts.

“A win is always a good way to end the season,” said coach Dan Funt. “More importantly, I thought we played well defensively. We also pitched well. We had a lot of runners on, but we stranded them on the bases, which was not good.

“Overall, I saw a lot of improvements from the girls this season. In order to reach some long-term goals, I hope the girls continue to work hard and improve in the offseason. I want to wish them luck with the sports they play the rest of the school year.”

Baylee Keesee was 1-for-3 with two runs while Mosley was 1-for-3 with a run. Lucy Tuggle was 1-for-2 while Ashley Johnston, Rylee Owens and Mattie Johnston each walked in the win for the Lady Cougars.
