SUNDAY SCARE

Church-goers at Monticello Presbyterian Church Sunday morning had a bit of a scare as there was the smell of smoke in the sanctuary. 911 was called, and several fire firefighters and fire apparatus responded. A thorough search of the building found no cause for alarm. Jasper County Fire Chief Jarrett Slocumb said he thought the smell was coming from an air conditioning unit. Dr. Jamie Mitchell, who is on the property committee at the church confirmed it was an air conditioning unit, and the problem is being repaired. He praised the response and professionalism of the volunteer firefighters and Chief Slocumb.
