MS Lady Cougars Win 17-0

The Piedmont Academy Middle School softball team recorded a 17-0 win against Arlington last week on the road. It took the Lady Cougars just three innings to register the victory as Lucy Tuggle and O’Neil Sealy combined for a no-hitter.

Sealy and Baylee Keesee both homered in the contest to help lead the Piedmont offense. Sealy finished with two RBI and a run while Keesee had an RBI and run scored.

Madison Burnham added a 2-for-2 effort with a double while Maddie Mooneyham had a double, walk and two runs. Gracie Hunt was 1-for-1 with an RBI and two runs while Hailey Hooper was 1-for-2 with two runs.

Also contributing were Lauren Mosley (two runs, one walk), Mattie Johnston (run), Bailyn Whitaker (run), Ivy English (walk, two runs), Kirkley Holifield (two runs, walk), Ashley Johnston (1-for-1) and Rylee Owens (run).

The Middle School team played in a tournament at Thomas Jefferson Saturday. Piedmont fell to host Thomas Jefferson as well as John Milledge.

“The tournament was a great experience for our players even though we did not get the results we were looking for,” coach Dan Funt said.

“We just didn’t play well. I certainly take some of the blame for that. Our defense gave up a lot of unearned runs and we didn’t hit well. That is not a good formula for winning.”

On Tuesday, the Middle School Lady Cougars were scheduled to play at Gatewood but the game was cancelled due to weather conditions.
