Grand Jury Indicts 30+

A Jasper County Grand Jury convened Monday, Aug. 13, and was presented with more than 30 cases, which they either true-billed or no-billed.

However, according to Jasper County Clerk of the Court Dan Jordan, Georgia law requires that a Superior Court Judge shall receive the presentments of the Grand Jury in open court. No judge was available to the county until this Monday, Aug. 20, partly because of the retirement of Judge J. Lee Parrott, whose position has not been filled.

The Grand Jury indicted Darryl E. Thomas on three counts of theft by deception and false swearing.

Tony Andrews was also indicted on three counts of theft by deception.

According to the evidence presented, on August 10, 2009, Mr. Thomas falsely reported a motor vehicle collision and unlawfully obtained a check for $4,847 from United Services Automobile Services. On August 31, 2009 Mr. Thomas and Mr. Andrews falsely reported a motor vehicle collision and unlawfully obtained a check for $3,710 from Nationwide Insurance.

On June 2, 2009 Mr. Andrews falsely reported a motor vehicle collision and unlawfully obtained a check for $2,724 from State Farm Mutual Auto Insurance Company.

On February 10, 2009 Mr. Andrews falsely reported a motor vehicle collision and unlawfully obtained a check for $$3,709 from Infinity Insurance Company, and finally, on March 24, 2009 Mr. Thomas falsely reported a claim to Safe Auto Insurance Company that had been paid on a previous claim.
