Lady Canes Defeat Morgan Co.

The Lady ’Canes softball team defeated Morgan County Tuesday, in their home opener, even though there were delays due to weather with the entire seven innings lasting about three hours and 20 minutes.
Taylor Garrett was on the mound for the ’Canes and allowed seven runs, four in the first inning, and only one in the second.
She seemed to settle down later in the game and brought home a win for the ’Canes.
All of the ladies performed well at the plate, being that Garrett had a double, and Morgan Studdard, Beth Hart, Janee Chapman each had a hit in the first and Cristin Jackson walked. Both Hart and Studdard earned a RBI in the first ending the inning with the ’Canes down by one, 4-3.

After the first inning, the Morgan Bulldogs were up and earned only one run. In the bottom of the second the The Lady ’Canes only had one batter up before the rain pelted the field and caused a delay. The officials called a 30 minute break due to lightning and the game resumed thereafter.
Once resumed, the ’Canes continued their hitting with Garrett, Studdard, and Chapman all having a hit. Destiny Glawson hit a ringer and earned three RBI, although she was tagged out on third. Paissley Stewart earned a walk in the second.
The ’Canes made light work of the following innings, where they allowed only two more runs for the bulldogs. Destiny Glawson went 3-4 with 5 RBIs in her first Varsity start and all nine starters reached base and eight of the nine had at least one hit, so it was a pretty good offensive showing against a couple of tough pitchers.
The Lady Canes will face Locust Grove today, Aug. 16 at 5 p.m. at home. They are also scheduled to play in the Brawl in the Fall in Jones County next Wednesday, Aug. 22 against Jones, and Rutland.
