Some changes in classifications have happened since last year. The ‘Canes will still compete in Region 4-AA, however, Morgan, Pike, Southwest Macon, and Greene have moved out of the region into the AAA classification. The new teams in Region 4-AA are Bleckley, Taylor, and Macon Counties, and old region rivalries will continue versus Northeast Macon, Lamar, Crawford, and Putnam Counties.
Once again the ‘Canes will be a young team with only 12 seniors, and nine potential starters with no varsity experience, on both offense and defense. Head Football Coach Eddie Roberts said, “We will have some depth, but they will all be young and inexperienced with very little varsity experience. We can’t afford to get anybody hurt. On the plus side, they are a great group of kids, the most athletic I’ve seen since I’ve been here and they all perform with a great attitude.”
Coach Roberts listed his potential starters on offensive as Tyler Cooper at center, Garrison Williams and Chris Anglin at guard, Xavier Gude and Quitavious Sanders at tackle, Jamario Stone at tight end, DeAtrius Stone at split end, Deon Epps at flanker, Quincy Standifer and Tra Jackson at running back, and Lane Thomas at quarterback.
On defense the coach listed Garrison Williams and Tyler Seawright at the ends, Jamario Stone and Chris Anglin at the tackle positions, Xavier Gude and Quitavious Sanders at the inside linebacker spots, Tra Jackson and Jordan Stone playing outside linebackers, Jamario Stone and Deon Epps at the corners and Quincy Standifer at free safety.
