Firearms Reported Stolen

According to information received from the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) a resident on Nelson Road in South Jasper County reported their home had been broken into and burglarized on July 5.

Reported stolen were a Winchester rifle model 1893, a Remmington 22 automatic rifle, a Savage 22 bolt action rifle and a single shot 22 rifle. The thief or thieves were also reported to have made off with a gold wedding band and a gold necklace with a heart and diamonds.

Other criminal activity reported by the JCSO during the period of July 2-7 include the following:

• On July 7 a resident on Lakeshore Drive in Alcovy Shores reported the theft of a Smith & Wesson 38 Special snub nose revolver, model 60 and serial number R25912. It was also reported a cell phone, a gold necklace and oxycontin tablets were stolen.

•On July 3 a resident on Deer Run Circle in Newborn reported the theft of the license plate (BZR9211) from a vehicle.

•On July 2 a convenience store on Hwy 83 North in Shady Dale reported the theft coins and bills from a drink machine.

Also, during the period of July 2-9 the JCSO reported the following arrests:

• Bobby Gene Strickland, III, 27, Monticello—possession of marijuana less than one ounce, battery and possession of meth.

• Patrick Mark Ward, Jr., 23, Monticello—disorderly conduct.

• Jacob Andrew Casteel, 20, Covington—probation violation.

• Cody Blane Powell, 18, Monticello—simple battery.

• Michael Gary Bonamo, 22, Macon—disorderly conduct.

• Kristin Emerald Rogers, 31, Monticello—theft by receiving stolen property.

• Carl Dewayne Martin, 56, Monticello—driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and license to be carried or exhibited on demand.

• Zachary Allen Vaught, 25, Covington—driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

• Richard Wayne Causey, 43, Mansfield—theft by conversion (two counts).

• Chandra Denise Brown, 29, Monticello—theft by receiving stolen property.

• Johnny Wayne Gibbs, 26, Monticello—reckless conduct causing harm to or endanger the safety.

During this same period deputies with the JCSO responded to 120 calls for service including 25 stopping suspicious person/vehicle, 14 alarm, 13 road hazard, eight subject needs officer, seven mechanical break down, five accident, four livestock on road, three each domestic, assist motorist, miscellaneous ems, juvenile complaint and checking location, two each dog disturbance, intoxicated driver, threatening/harassing calls, attempt to serve warrant and 911 hang up, one each fight, prowler report, fire/brush, theft by taking, shortness of breath, assault, deliver emergency message, missing person, welfare check, discharge firearms, possible suicide, trouble unknown, property found, argument, persons refuse to leave and abandoned vehicle.

During this same Period the Monticello Police Department (MPD) reported the arrest of Julius Chester Wilkins, 73, of Monticello, and charged him with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Also during this period officers with the MPD responded to 51 calls for service including 13 stopping suspicious person/vehicle, five mechanical bread down, four alarm, three subject needs officer, two each accident, improperly parked vehicles, music/noise complaint and road hazard, one each prowler report, assist motorist, intoxicated driver, escort or convoy theft by taking, mental person, fracture, shortness of breath, chest pain, fall, crowd disbursement, discharge firearms, trouble unknown, checking location, sick, abandoned vehicle, attempt to serve warrant and 911 hang up.
