Fugitive Captured in Jasper

Michael Marshall, 37, a wanted felon, was apprehended on June 28 in a wooded area off of Goolsby Road by deputies with the JCSO and the Georgia Department of Corrections Canine Unit, according to a report from the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO).

Mr. Marshall had absconded from Newton County as a registered sex offender, and his whereabouts was received from an unnamed source. He was also wanted on a probation violation in Cobb County, and has been charged in Jasper County with obstruction of officers and failure to register as a sex offender, and is being held in the Jasper County Jail without bond.

Other criminal activity reported by the JCSO for the period of June 23 through July 1 include the following:

•On July 1 a resident on Blue Heron Drive in Rolling Wood Cove reported the theft of a Chevrolet 350 motor, Zebco rod and reels, an undescribed meter and a deer stand.

•On June 27, the Clubhouse at Turtle Cove reported the theft of two E-Z GO gas powered golf carts.

•On June 26 a citizen reported to the JCSO that he had discovered that two of his missing firearms and accessories had been pawned in Walton County in 2008 and 2009.

•On June 24 another resident on Blue Heron Drive in Rolling Wood Cove reported the theft of batteries from a personal watercraft.

•On June 23 a deputy responded to a lot in Edwards Mobile Home Court in Shady Dale where a wallet and cash were reported stolen.

•On June 17 the Clubhouse at Turtle Cove reported the theft of nine flag poles from the golf course.

Also, during the period of June 26 to July 2 the JCSO reported the following arrests:

•Mark Wayne Britt, 22, Monticello—theft by receiving stolen property, cruelty to children in the third degree (two counts), simple battery and obstruction or hindering law enforcement officers.

•Terry Edward Ryles, Sr., 57, Monticello—probation violation.

•Pearl Hunter Bray, 48, Monticello—Jasper County Magistrate Court Bench Warrant.

•Nicholas Keith Williamson, 23, Mansfield—hold for warrant by the Barnesville Police Department.

•Duane Meredith Wardell, 70, Monticello—disorderly conduct.

During this same time period deputies with the JCSO responded to 110 calls for service including 25 stopping suspicious person/vehicle, 11 subject needs officer, six each pickup prisoner and juvenile complaint, five each accident, theft by taking, vandalism of property and road hazard, three each alarm, domestic, livestock on road, escort or convoy and welfare check.

Also, two each burglary, assist motorist, mechanical break down, four wheeler, trouble unknown, threatening/harassing calls, property found and persons refuse to leave, one each prowler report, intoxicated driver, intoxicated pedestrian, extra patrol, fireworks, discharge firearms, abandoned vehicle, attempt to serve warrant and transport of patient.

In addition, during the period mentioned the Monticello Police Department (MPD) reported the following arrests:

•Thomas David Smith, 61, Mansfield—public drunkenness.

•Percy Eugene Johnson, 54, Monticello—open container.

•Frederico Alawandra Williams, 30, Monticello—hold for warrants in Baldwin and Newton counties.

•Harlan Wesley Duvall, Jr., 20, Mansfield—criminal trespass.

Also during this period officers with the MPD responded to 63 calls for service including 17 stopping suspicious person/vehicle, seven alarm, three each dog disturbance, escort or convoy, mechanical break down and fire alarm, two each burglary, subject needs officer, vandalism and argument.

Also, one each domestic, assist motorist, courtesy ride, accident, intoxicated driver, intoxicated pedestrian, direct traffic, fire/other, fire/structure, theft by taking, improperly parked vehicles, chest pain, miscellaneous fire, welfare check private property, trouble unknown, property found, sick and abandoned vehicle.

Furthermore, during this same period the Georgia State Patrol reported the arrest of Edward George Cain, 47, of Covington, and charged him with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
