MEMORIAL DAY

A color guard composed of veteran members of the American Legion Post 110 in Monticello raised the flag at Turtle Cove and at the American Legion on Monday, Memorial Day, May 28.

Fred Paul, Legion Commander, said that it is customary on Memorial Day to fly the flag at half-staff until noon in memory of those lost, then raise it to full staff. The local men had a ceremony at Turtle Cove at noon, then at the American Legion at 1 p.m. Monday’s color guard was composed of Bob Brill, James Beverly, Bill Zaluska, Danny Cleveland and Jeff Horne.

The photos above show some of the flags that were flying on the Monticello Square Monday, and the color guard’s flag ceremony at Turtle Cove. To read a veteran’s story, turn to page 5 of today’s paper.
