Shady Dale Rodeo Is Set for First Weekend in June

Mark your calendar for Friday and Saturday, June 1 and 2 at 8 p.m. for you will not want to miss the #1 outdoor rodeo in the southeast occurring in Shady Dale.
The award winning Shady Dale Rodeo is sanctioned by the International Professional Rodeo Association (IPRA), and is produced by the Masonic Lodges of Jasper County. Proudly celebrating its 29th year, it is located on Hwy. 83 just south of the red flashing light at the intersection of Hwy. 83 and Hwy. 142 in downtown Shady Dale. This year’s rodeo will feature the best cowboys and cowgirls from North America competing for $20,000 in prize money, matched against the toughest livestock from the Southern Rodeo Company.

It’s something for the whole family—bare back and saddle bronc riding, tie down roping, steer wrestling, barrel racing, team roping, world championship bull riding and a calf scramble for kids 6-12. This year on both Friday and Saturday night all youngsters 10 and under will be admitted free of charge (with paid adults).
A variety of concessions will be available from home cooked BBQ, hotdogs, hamburgers, boiled peanuts and the favorite, Farm Bureau lady’s home made cakes, pies, cookies and other sweets. The specialty act this year will feature Dusti Craine of St. Peter, Ill. and Justin Dickerson performing the colorful and exciting roman riding acts on their flying steeds, Royal Fellow, Dash and Dude.
In addition, the spectacular Spalding County 4-H Drill Team will be performing again this year. The rodeo announcer, David Sharp of Xtreme Bulls on ESPN is back again along with the reigning 2012 Miss Rodeo USA, Trisha Smeenk from Belle Fourche, S.D.. She will be signing autographs at Town-n-Country General Store on Hwy. 212 in Monticello on Saturday morning.
A special hats off to the corporate sponsors of the 29th Shady Dale Rodeo—Hooper Trailer Sales, Ginn Motor Company, Pennington Seed, and Tractor Supply.
All of the proceeds from the rodeo’s ticket sales and concessions go toward charity and are awarded to the Scottish Rite Care for the hearing impaired, the Shrine Burn Hospital, the York Rite Eye Foundation, the Masonic Children’s Home in Macon and to provide college scholarships for the education of local youth.
Parking is free and adult tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the gate. Kids 10 and under are admitted free. During the day Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m., Shady Dale’s Rodeo Round-up Festival will entertain rodeo fans with music, venders and eats with the award winning mile long Al Sihah Shrine / American Legion parade beginning at 3 p.m. Sergeant Will Perry of Monticello will have the honor of being the Grand Marshall of the parade this year.
