‘Canes Complete Spring Practice
The ‘Canes completed spring practice last Thursday, May 18, with an inter squad scrimmage at Rose Bowl Field.
Head Football Coach Eddie Roberts reported that the spring practice went well, with the attitude and performance of the team as outstanding.
He also added, “We lost 21 seniors, but we have 12 stepping up for this fall. One of the bright spots is that we have 25 ninth graders coming up. We’ll also be more athletic than we have been since I’ve been here. We’ll be raw and inexperienced, but we’ll have more size and good speed.”
Although the ‘Canes will remain in class AA this fall, there will be some changes in their schedule that should benefit them. Some of the larger schools including Morgan County, Greene County, Southwest Macon and Pike County will be moving on to class AAA or out of the region. The ‘Canes will be adding Macon County, Taylor County and Blakely County to their schedule.
The team is scheduled to play a scrimmage game on August 16, and will open their season versus Morgan County on the road in a non-region game on Friday, August 31.
