John Calvin “Jake” Fish, Jr.

John Calvin “Jake” Fish, Jr., 62, died Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at Abbey Hospice in Social Circle.

Mr. Fish was a lifelong resident of Monticello. His parents were the late John Calvin Fish and Mary Ada Spencer Fish.

He was an active member of Monticello Baptist Church and his faith in God and life witness made him a true “fisherman of men.”

He was a member of the Monticello Jaycees and the men’s breakfast group known as the “Romeo” group (retired old men eating out).

He was an avid outdoorsman, but he especially loved to fish and hunt. He was a friend to everyone he met and never met a stranger.

His son, John Calvin Fish, III, preceded him in death in 2004.

Survivors include his wife, Joan Moss Fish of Monticello; children and their spouses, Tambra and David “Pac” Mitchell of Monticello, Matthew and Jennifer Chastain of Athens, and Julie and Kip Carter of Loganville; grandchildren, Kylie Mitchell, Madison Fish, Jacob Mitchell, Reid Carter, and Copelyn Chastain.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, April 21, at 11 a.m. at Monticello Baptist Church. Interment will be held in West View Cemetery. Dr. Robert Whitmire will officiate. The family will receive friends Friday, April 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Jordan Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Nathan Moss, Ricky Moss, Lawson Moss, Billy Ozburn, Tony Wild, and Kenneth Pope. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Adult III Sunday School Class.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Monticello Baptist Church, 334 W. Green Street, Monticello, GA 31064.

Jordan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. For more information, visit its website at www.jordanfuneralhome monticello.com.
