Baseball ‘Canes Won’t Go to Playoffs

MCMICHAEL PITCHES THREE HITTER

The ‘Canes played two critical games, 14 long innings, and only gave up four runs in their final quest for the playoffs, but could only manage two runs themselves and have been eliminated from playoff contention.

The first loss was a 2-1 decision versus Putnam last week, a team they had defeated 1-0 earlier in the season.

The second loss, also a 2-1 decision, versus Crawford put the nail in their coffin and sent them to fifth place in the region. The first four place teams advance.

Athletic Director and Head Coach Chris Jenkins said, “In the Crawford game we only allowed three hits against the best hitting team in the region. Six of the seven innings we had runners on and in scoring position, but couldn’t get a bunt down or a key hit.

Brady McMichael pitched a three-hitter and still took a loss.

“The loss to Putnam last week was eerily similar. Kevin Camp allowed two hits but we still lost by the same score of 2-1. It was good pitching and lack of execution that beat us in those two critical games.

“We left the tying runs in scoring position in the bottom of the seventh inning in both games.”

The ‘Canes were scheduled to play their last region game yesterday versus Lamar at home, and honor the seniors. A win or loss would not affect their region standing.
