Piedmont Soccer Wins
After several days of not competing, the Piedmont Academy soccer teams were back on the field Tuesday and both earned victories.
The Piedmont boys defeated Trinity of Statesboro 9-0 while the Lady Cougars defeated Monsignor Donovan 7-4. Both matches were at home.
For the Piedmont boys, it was a quality bounce back win from the previous outing when the team was upset by Gatewood. “We didn’t know much about our opponent,” said coach Dwain Landress. “We were coming off a long break after our loss to Gatewood. It wasn’t exactly a pretty 9-0 win.”

Piedmont led 5-0 at halftime on goals from Hunter Clark, Nick Dimsdale, Nick Adamczyk and two from Davis Kimball. Adamczyk and Clark had assists in the first half. The goal by Dimsdale seemed to wake the Cougars up, Landress said.
“We were still playing selfish in areas,” the coach said. “Overall, the second half was a better effort.”
Adamczyk and Austin Bass began controlling the midfield and Piedmont continued to pull away. Dimsdale added an unassisted goal followed by scores from Bass and Adamczyk. The ninth goal was from freshman Joseph Hardin.
Landress said the entire team was able to see action and Hunter Pope and Ben Davis had some strong plays.
The Lady Cougars built a 2-0 lead at halftime on goals by Heather Tyler and Jordan Blackmon. Lanie King and Tyler had the assists.
“We beat them 8-0 the first time we played,” Landress said. “I think the combination of us being off for several days and being a little overconfident played factors in the first half. We came out flat.”
The coach said the Lady Cougars “played much better in the second half” despite some defensive lapses. King scored two goals off assists from Amberly Moseley and Tyler. Tyler added two more goals on assists from Blackmon.
“Heather finished with three goals but could have easily had 12,” Landress said. “She was so close several times.”
Blackmon put the final goal in on an assist from Moseley. Carley Cain was strong in goal, her coach said, and overcame several defensive miscues the team made in front of her.
“Kacy Swart really controlled the midfield,” Landress said. “This was a region victory and we needed it. It also gave us a chance to knock the rust off.”
The Lady Cougars will host Westminster Christian today, April 12. The Middle School Lady Cougars are scheduled to compete beforehand. Both varsity teams will host Lafayette Christian Friday beginning at 5:30 p.m.
