Piedmont Track Athletes Do Well
Several Piedmont Academy track athletes turned in strong performances last week during a meet hosted by Gatewood in Eatonton.
The Piedmont boys finished fifth overall among eight schools.
Individually, Zach Benjamin won both the 100 and 200-meter dashes while Austin Corley was second in the shot put.
The 4×100-meter relay team of Peter Lawson, Gaven Edge, Nick Dimsdale and Benjamin were also second.
Lawson was fourth in the 100-meter dash and eighth in the 200-meter.
Hunter Clark was fifth in the 3,200-meter run while Austin Bass was eighth in the event. Britton Bailey finished sixth in the 1,600-meter run with Bass close behind in seventh place.
Hank Strickland took sixth place in the 400-meter run and the 800-meter run and Bobby Mitchell was sixth in the triple jump.

The Lady Cougars also had several standout performances including a fifth-place showing by Cheyenne Galloway in the 1,600-meter run. Heather Tyler was seventh in both the long jump and 100-meter dash.
The 4×100-meter relay team of Tyler, Galloway, Abby Hyde and Remington Marsh was seventh. Marsh was also eighth in the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash.
The Piedmont track teams were scheduled to compete Wednesday at Brentwood. The teams will then be off until after spring break when they travel back to Gatewood for an April 11 meet.
