Man Gets 10 Years On Assault Charges

Jonathan L. Maroney pled guilty to the felony charge of aggravated assault in Jasper Superior Court Tuesday, with Judge William A. Prior, Jr., presiding. Mr. Maroney was sentenced to 10 years, concurrent with any and all existing sentences, with two years to serve and the remainder on probation. He was also charged with fines and fees totaling $1,387.

Twelve other individuals also pled guilty to charges and were sentenced as indicated:

•Troy Lee Dowdy—possession of methamphetamine and driving while license suspended, sentenced to five years on probation with two days to serve and fines and fees totaling $1,887.

•Marlon A. Thurman— reckless driving, simple assault and driving while license suspended, sentenced to 12 months to be served on probation and fines and fees totaling $599.

•Kenyatta Standifer—two counts of theft by deception, sentenced to 20 years to be served on probation, fines and fees of $1,387, and restitution of $16,083 to the GA Dept of Community Affairs joint and several with co-defendant Cedric D. Stone.

•Cedric D. Stone—two counts of theft by deception, sentenced to 20 years to be served on probation, fines and fees of $1,387, and restitution of $12,930 to the GA Department of Community Affairs joint and several with co-defendant Standifer.

•James W. Truskosky—sale of dihydrocodeneone, sentenced to five years to be served on probation and fines and fees totaling $1,832.

• Dale Kevin Davis—three counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, sentenced to five years to be served on probation and fines and fees totaling $1,387.

•Jessica S. Sprayberry—possession of methamphetamine, sentenced to five years to be served on probation and fines and fees totaling $1,887.

•Bobbie Carol Elkins—interference with government property, sentenced to three years to be served on probation and fines and fees totaling $600.

•Thomas D. Smith—criminal damage to property in the second degree, sentenced to five years to be served on probation and fines and fees totaling $712.

•Emily G. Medina—theft by receiving stolen property, sentenced to 12 months to be served on probation and fines and fees totaling $604.

•Kristin Voyles—forgery in the first degree and giving false name, sentenced to five years to be served on Intensive Probation supervision and fines and fees totaling $1,437.

In addition, the court found sufficient evidence to revoke the probation of the following individuals and sentenced them as indicated below:

•Robby Dale Griffin, who was on probation for the conviction of possession of methamphetamine and marijuana in November 2009, committed the new offenses of criminal damage to property in the second degree, criminal trespass, failure to report, failure to perform community service and failure to pay court ordered fines and fees. The Court ordered that Mr. Griffin be given credit for time served since January 17, 2012 and returned to regular probation.

•Aubrey Wayne Savage, who was on probation for the conviction of possession of methamphetamine in April of 2007, committed the new offenses of failure to report and failure to pay court ordered fines and fees. The court ordered that Mr. Savage spend the remainder of his probation in the Jasper County Jail with an end date of August 21, 2012, but that jail time would be vacated upon full payment of $3,089.

•Joseph D. Fondren III, who was on probation for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs in March of 2011, committed the new offenses of failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, failure to use turn signal, driving on a suspended/revoked license and DUI. The court ordered that probation shall be revoked in full with 74 days of the defendant’s time to be served on house arrest with alcohol monitoring, and that the defendant shall be responsible for all costs including a $25 installation fee and $12 per day maintenance fee.

A bond hearing was held for Matthew Ford who has been charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute. Mr. Ford was given a conditional bond of $50,000 cash, property or commercial bond only.

Also, 41 other individuals pled not guilty to varying charges. Eight additional cases were continued.
