Prior to this game the ‘Canes defeated Putnam 1-0 in a must-win situation. The ‘Canes finally scored in the top of the seventh inning after Taylor Fields drew a one-out walk, and was then moved to second on a perfectly executed sacrifice bunt by W. McMichael.

Kyle Camp, with two outs and two strikes on him, belted a single to score the winning and only run of the game.

Kevin Camp pitched six-plus innings and got the win by allowing only three hits. B. McMichael got the save, after inheriting the tying run on second with no outs in the seventh inning, by striking out the his first two batters and getting the final out on a ground ball.

The team was scheduled to face Crawford County in Roberta Wednesday. They are also scheduled to play Lamar in Barnesville tomorrow, March 30, Jones County at home on Monday, April 2, and Morgan County in Madison on Tuesday, April 3.

Athletic Director and Head Baseball Coach Chris Jenkins said, “The next four region games are against the top four seeds from last year. We’ve played well all season, but haven’t hit well enough to win. However, the Putnam game was one of those wins that can set the tone for the remainder of the season.”

The Middle School ‘Canes shut out Carver last Friday, but then dropped a game to Social Circle on Saturday. They are scheduled to play on the road versus Carson today, March 29.
