4-H Horse Show Is Fun for All

Saturday was a beautiful day for the second Jasper County 4-H Horse Show.
The show, which was held at the Shady Dale Rodeo Arena, started promptly at 9 a.m., and ended about 8:30 p.m. Jasper County 4-H’er Amber Scarbrough sang the National Anthem while Casey Elias, Krista Mercer, and Nathaniel Hinton carried the American, Georgia, and 4-H flags around the arena.
This event was coordinated by the Jasper County 4-H Horse Club as a fund raiser to send deserving 4-H’ers to Georgia State 4-H Horse School and to provide support for other 4-H Horse Events such as 4-H Horse Judging, 4-H Horse Quiz Bowl, and Hippology Contests.

This show had a little something for everyone. Halter classes, Western and English Classes, speed events and good old fashioned fun classes were offered.
Some of the more entertaining classes included a pants-on-the-goat race, powdered donut race, and musical feedbags. The tunnel race was also a crowd favorite. A new addition this year was a PeeWee Division for children 10 years of age and under. Games such as the potato race, and the gummy worm race were enjoyed by these youngsters.
High Point and Reserve High Point awards were given for divisional placings and for the All Around High Point and Reserve in Novice, Youth and Open classes.
A special thank you goes to the Monticello and Shady Dale Masonic Lodges for donating the use of the arena, for running the concession stand and for all their time and effort in helping the 4-H Horse Club get ready for the event. Dr. Jennifer Proctor and Benny Hawthorne donated their time to take pictures of the competitors and spectators.
