Lady Cougars Soccer Remain Impressive
It was another big win for the Piedmont Academy Lady Cougar soccer team Tuesday night.
Piedmont ventured to Westminster and posted an 8-1 win. In their last three matches, the Lady Cougars have outscored their opponents 23-1.
Sophomore Jordan Blackmon scored five goals Tuesday night to help lead the attack. Lanie King added two goals while Heather Tyler had one.
Jenna Vella had two assists in the win.
“We came out a lot stronger than we did in Monday’s match,” said coach Jake Landress. “That was something we were concerned about since we did not have a day to practice. Westminster was one of the most physical teams we’ve played and they were outmuscling us early.”

Blackmon helped the Lady Cougars take a 2-0 lead.
“In the end, we were doing everything right, just like we have done in the past three matches,” Landress said. “We made a couple of adjustments (in Tuesday’s match) because we were getting pushed off the ball. I told them we couldn’t let them do that to us.”
Prior to Tuesday night’s match, the Lady Cougars defeated Monsignor Donovan Monday 8-1.
Piedmont took control early building a 5-1 lead by halftime. A goal by Tyler on an assist from Blackmon seemed to ignite the Lady Cougars.
“We were able to possess the ball and pass it well,” said Landress. “Everyone did every thing right.”
Tyler finished the match with five goals while Blackmon added two scores with four assists. King added a goal while Kacy Swart and Hailey Burnham both had two assists. The coaches credited Carley Cain for another strong match in goal.
The Lady Cougars also cruised past Central Fellowship Friday 7-0. Blackmon scored three goals and dished off two assists. Tyler scored two goals while King and Amberly Moseley both scored one. Burnham had two assists while King added one.
The Piedmont boys had just started their match Friday when weather conditions caused it to be stopped. The match will be made up later this spring.
The Lady Cougars will host Class AAA Mt. de Sales Friday beginning at 5:30 p.m. while the varsity boys will host Tiftarea at 7:30 p.m.
The Piedmont boys will also host Christian Heritage Saturday at 3 p.m.
