Antique Tractor, Truck Pull Is Saturday

The Monticello FFA Alumni will host the 16th annual antique tractor pull this Saturday, March 17, beginning at 3 p.m. at the Shady Dale Rodeo Grounds in Shady Dale.
Admission to the event is $8 for adults and $4 for children under 12. Proceeds from the pull are used for scholarships and to help the Jasper Co. FFA in its projects.
The tractors and trucks pull a weight transfer sled the longest distance on a 200 ft. track. Tractors and trucks compete in different classes according to weight and style of machine. Stock antique tractors are built before 1965, run first gear with standard uncut tires. Super antique can turn more RPMs and pull in any gear; tires can be trimmed or cut to get a better bite.

Turbo and Modern Farm can be any model tractor and run any gear. Lots of smoke and fast! Weight classes start at 3,000 pounds and go to 14,000 pounds.
Trucks pull in street class or modified class. Street class is street legal, has tag and insurance. Modified trucks run solid suspension, cleat tires and modified engines. Truck weight classes are from 5,500 pounds to 8,500 pounds.
Future tractor pullers bring their pedal tractors and race their tractors down the track. Boys and girls between the ages of three to seven are invited to participate in this event which takes place at halftime, about 5:30-6 p.m.
A drivers’ meeting will be held at the sled on the tract at 2:45 p.m. Anyone wnat to pull their tractor or truck should check with Sam Thornton, 706-816-8142 for a set of rules.
