Tennis Cougars Begin Play Monday
The Piedmont Academy tennis program will be a work in progress this spring, however, coach Robert McMichael simply wants his players to continue seeking to improve for each match.
Piedmont began play Monday against Covenant in Macon. While no Cougar player recorded a match win, McMichael hopes the day was the start of a season of steady progress.
Brittany Germany played well at No. 1 singles for the Lady Cougars before falling 8-4. Clare Maloney was at No. 2 singles and battled to an 8-2 match. Katie Brennan competed at No. 3 singles.
Briana Bailey and Savannah Holifield played a tough match at No. 1 doubles before falling 8-5. Brittnee Phillips and Jade Wilson battled to an 8-3 match at No. 2 doubles.
Halley Hedrick and Dallas Fletcher played a consolation match on Monday.
For the Piedmont boys, Britton Bailey fell 8-1.
“We still have some work to do,” McMichael said. “We will continue working and move forward.”
Piedmont was scheduled to face Gatewood Wednesday.
