Skip Nowetner Announces Candidacy

H.J. “Skip” Nowetner has announced his intention to seek the office of County Commissioner, District 3.
“District 3 is the largest district in Jasper County. This district has a large rural area and also has many large residential areas. And I feel that District 3 needs a commissioner who understands the needs of all the citizens,” said Mr. Nowetner.
He and his wife, Cheryl, moved to Georgia 31 years ago, and have lived in Jasper County for the last 22 years. They have four children and seven grandchildren.
Mr. Nowetner is a graduate of McKee Technical High School where he studied Electrical Engineering and Installation. He then completed a five year apprenticeship in electrical installation and theory and a three year apprenticeship in Industrial, Electronic, and Pneumatic Controls.
“For over 40 years I supervised and installed control systems in hydro, conventional, and nuclear power plants, water treatment facilities, water distribution systems, desalination plants and many manufacturing facilities. I was lucky enough to use my skills all over the United States and around the world. After 42 years of traveling around I retired to my home in Jasper County.
“I am proud to state that I served my county in the United States Army, and I am a decorated Viet Nam veteran, serving in 1967 and 1968. I received an Honorable Discharge from the Army, and today I am a member of the American Legion Post 110 here in Jasper County.
“Since I retired in 2010, I have heard many citizens complaining about how things are being done or not being done in Jasper County. I decided to find out for myself the reasons for these complaints. I started to attend not only Board of Commissioners meetings, but Recreation Department, Planning and Zoning and the Jasper County Water and Sewer Authority meetings, to name a few. I try to attend as many meetings each month as I possibly can. This is the way I find out for myself what is actually happening in Jasper County.
“As County Commissioner I will continue to attend these meetings to make sure these boards are working towards the best interest of the citizens of Jasper County,” said Mr. Nowetner.
“I have as my goal, as county commissioner, to be accessible to all the citizens of Jasper County, not only through phone calls and e-mails, but personally. I plan to be available to all the citizens several hours a month at the courthouse, so that you can come in and discuss your concerns. Or you can call and we will set up a personal meeting at your convenience.
“As I see it, Jasper County is in need of jobs and businesses. I think Jasper County needs to promote our existing resources, and that would be our many recreational facilities. I feel the Board of Commissioners should support and encourage the use of our recreation facilities, and promote the use of our lakes, river and horseback riding trails, state park, and national forest. We need to promote these recreational opportunities not only here but throughout the state and the nation. This would be a good way to bring in more businesses and more jobs. I will work with state and federal officials to improve and enhance these facilities.
“As a volunteer firefighter and volunteer rescue squad member for over 20 years in New Jersey, I firmly support our volunteer fire companies, our EMS, and our Sheriff’s Dept. I feel these are the most important services that the county supplies to its citizens. As County Commissioner I would support these services and see they have the resources to do their job.
“If elected as a county commissioner I feel it is my duty to restore and maintain the services to our citizens. This includes better maintenance of our roads and infrastructure, and to make sure that we have a viable health and treatment system.
“I would like the opportunity to represent not only the people of District 3 but all the citizens of Jasper County. I would like to ask your vote and support for me, H.J. “Skip” Nowetner for District 3 County Commissioner.”
