Mrs. Theresa G. Brown
Theresa Brown, 91, of Monticello died January 17, 2012 at the Retreat Nursing Home.
Mrs. Brown was born to the late Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Goolsby on December 7, 1920.
She stayed in Monticello all her life where she met and married the late James W. Brown, who preceded her in death. The couple had seven children.
Mrs. Brown received her education in the Jasper County school system. She was a stay at home mom and was a faithful member of St. James A.M.E. Church. She served on the Pastor Aid Board as president, under the leadership of Revs. Moses, Reynolds, and Reid.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by two daughters, Dorothy Louise Sands and Rosa Lee Jackson; three sisters, Mary Goolsby, Mattie Mae Bebee, and Virginia Chapman, and a brother Stephen “S.T.” Goolsby.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Phillip and Delores Brown and Marvin and Kathy Brown; three daughters, Suzette Gude and Debra Lester, both of Monticello, and Phillis Thomas of College Park; 29 grandchildren, and 44 great-grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
A service was held Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012 at St. James A.M.E. Church in Monticello. Donna Marie Calix, officiated. Burial was in South View Cemetery.
Smith and Sons Funeral Home, Monticello was in charge of arrangements.
