Angie Steele Announces Candidacy for County Tax Commissioner

Angie Tarleton Steele is announcing her candidacy for Jasper County Tax Commissioner, to succeed Merry Faulkner, who will retire upon the expiration of her term at the end of this year.

Mrs. Steele and her husband Mike are both lifetime residents of Jasper County and have seven children ranging in age from four to 19. They attend Jasper County public schools.

A graduate of Jasper County High School, Mrs. Steele worked for State Farm Insurance as a Customer Service Representative for 10 years prior to taking a job with Clerk of Courts Dan Jordan. Mrs. Steele has been employed with the county as a Deputy Clerk of Magistrate Court for nine years.

As part of her cross training with all classes of court, she has experience with collecting intangible and real estate transfer taxes, recording deeds, and assisting customers with research of tax liens. Also collecting, recording and disbursing probation fine payments. Mrs. Steele has data entry experience as she is currently responsible for reporting court dispositions to the Georgia Crime Information Center and the Department of Driver’s Services.

In addition, Mrs. Steele serves as the secretary of the Board of Equalization which handles tax appeals from the Tax Assessor’s office. Mrs. Steele said that “working closely with the Chief Tax Assessor Lynn Bentley has provided additional knowledge of tax procedures.”

Mrs. Steele is also the representative of the courts for Jasper County Family Connection which holds collaborative meetings five times a year. This has helped her to develop community building skills to work well with individual people and groups.

Mrs. Steele has served two 4-year terms as a part time Magistrate Judge under the direction of Chief Magistrate Ken Jackson and was appointed 8th District Representative for the Magistrate Council of Georgia in 2006 which includes over 25 counties. She has been an active member of the council and has completed extensive continuing education.

“Several years ago I participated in the Team Jasper Leadership program which gave me the opportunity to work with other citizens and business leaders within the County. From this I learned the necessary skills to promote positive collaboration amongst the community.

“I enjoy working with the public and look forward to continuing to serve the citizens of Jasper County. I believe that working closely with the other Constitutional officers has given me additional knowledge of how each office works together for the citizens of Jasper County.”

Mrs. Steele said that Mrs.Faulkner’s shoes will be hard to fill. She is confident that her experience working with the citizens of Jasper County and her leadership skills qualify her for this position.

She says that, “If elected I will continue to provide a citizen friendly tax office. I would appreciate your vote and support.”

Mrs. Steele’s name will appear on the Republican ballot in July.
