William “Bill” Clark Dumas

William “Bill” Clark Dumas, 78, of Gray, died Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012, at his residence.

Mr. Dumas was born and raised in Hillsboro, and resided in Gray. His parents were the late Frank Coleman Dumas and Mary Goolsby Dumas. He was a member of the Hillsboro Baptist Church.

He served in the United States Army with the Post of Engineers. He was stationed in Kotzebue, Alaska where he was instrumental in the surveying and topographical mapping of the Bering Strait. Mr. Dumas’s hobbies included spending time with friends and family. He loved time spent on his boat and operating his heavy equipment.

He studied Civil Engineering at Southern Tech in Atlanta, and prior to retirement owned and operated Dumas Construction Co. His brother, Joseph Coleman Dumas, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Hager Dumas of Gray; daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and Randy Manning and Kimberly and Woodrow Little, III, all of Danville; step-children and spouses, Dawna and Jerry Miller, Kenneth and Melinda Neil, and Lynda and Greg Winslette, all of Gray, and James and Sally Dumas of Bonaire; grandchildren, Jennifer Garrity, Michele Kimbro, Amanda Gosnell, and Rebecca Duffey; great-granddaughter, Ella Paige Gosnell; 11 step-grandchildren; 11 step-great-grandchildren; and brothers, Frank Dumas and John Edmund Dumas, Sr., of Hillsboro.

Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Hillsboro Baptist Church in Hillsboro. Interment was held in the Dumas Family Cemetery in Hillsboro. Rev. John McDuffie and Rev. Woodrow Little, III officiated.

Pallbearers were Calvin Avant, Roger Resseau, Preston Wynens, Charles Duffey, David Gosnell, Tyler Kimbro, and Liam Garrity.

The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Hospice Care Options, 486 New Street, Macon, Ga., 31201; or Hillsboro Baptist Church, P.O. Box 69, Hillsboro, Ga., 31038; or the Lorraine Dumas Outreach, P.O. Box 64, Hillsboro, Ga., 31038.
