City Police Investigate Accidents, Vandalism

The Monticello City Police stay busy with incidents in the city and the end of 2011 and beginning of 2012 were not different.
Police Chief Bobby Norris said New Year’s eve did not present any particular problems, except for cele-bratory gunfire. People shooting guns into the air to make noise for a celebration have caused problems elsewhere, and the chief said he does not want someone here to be injured or even killed, which happened in Atlanta last year.

Tuesday, Obie Lucky was arrested after trying to elude police and wrecking at the intersection of Hillsboro and Washington Streets. He was charged with fleeing/attempting to elude and probation violation.
Last week, police were called to the cemetery at Monticello Presbyterian Church when someone found the fence damaged. No explanation was readily available. Chief Norris said there was no sign of tire tracks, paint from a car or any other indication of what happened, but the wrought iron fence is clearly damaged.
And in a year that was relatively safe, the fender bender (at right) between an out of state car and a local resident occurred on West Washington Street just east of its intersection with Church Street. That intersection has long been a troublesome one, but few incidents were reported in 2011.
