Man Attempts to Pass Counterfeit Bill

Hakeel Devonte Norwood walked into Larry’s Four-Way at the intersection of Hwy. 212 and Jackson Lake Road last week and attempted to make a purchase with what turned out to be a counterfeit $100 bill. After the bill was determined to be counterfeit it was refused and he was turned away.

After authorities were notified a warrant was taken out on Mr. Norwood for the offense of forgery in the first degree. He was subsequently arrested by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) and incarcerated without bond due to a probation hold.

Mr. Norwood was scheduled to turn himself in to the Jasper County Jail on January 2, 2012, to begin serving a sentence in a state detention center for a burglary conviction.

Also, during the period of December 22-26 the JCSO reported the following criminal activity:

•On December 26 a resident on Blue Heron Drive in Alcovy Shores reported the theft of a wooden shed door valued at $200.

•On December 26 a resident on Herds Creek Road in reported the theft of a go-kart.

•On December 25 another resident on Blue Heron Drive in Alcovy Shores reported the theft of a BB gun.

•On December 23 still another resident on Blue Heron Drive in Alcovy Shores reported damage to private property which resulted in the arrest of three juvenile subjects.

•On December 23 a resident on Lakeshore Drive reported a home to have been burglarized and ransacked, and with a Sea Doo missing.

•On December 23 another resident on Lakeshore Drive reported a prior burglary.

•On December 23 still another resident on Lakeshore Drive reported a prior burglary.

•On December 23 a fourth resident on Lakeshore Drive in reported a prior burglary.

•On December 22 a citizen reported a storage unit on 147th Street in Monticello had been broken into and saddles, a bare back rick, various bits, a band saw and a chopsaw had been stolen.

The JCSO also reported the following arrests during the period of December 20 through 27:

•Reba Sharrie Herrington, 32, Covington—disorderly conduct.

•Sarah Elaine Collins, 22, Monticello—probation violation (two counts).

•Emilio Nava Vazquez, 23, Newborn—speeding and driving without a license.

•Sonya Ann Smith, 43, Monticello—disorderly conduct.

•Thomas Wesley Barkley, 32, Monticello—child support.

•Jennifer Nicole Allen, 30, Monticello—probation violation.

•Richard Paul Jeane, 50, Mansfield—hold for warrants in Morgan and Walton Counties.

•Charles Bradley Goen, 41, Griffin—probation violation and failure to appear on Magistrate Court Bench Warrant.

•Donte Rashard Stodghill, 25, McDonough—probation violation.

During this same period deputies with the JCSO responded to 15 stopping suspicious person/vehicle, 10 alarm, eight juvenile complaint, seven each accident, mechanical break down and assist motorist, six each burglary and subject needs officer, five vandalism of property, three each domestic, livestock on road, theft by taking, discharge firearms, road hazard and abandoned vehicle, two four wheeler, one each fight, pickup prisoner, mental person repossession of vehicle, assault, counterfeit, private property, trouble unknown, music/noise complaint, property found, trespassing and attempt to serve warrant.

Also during the period mentioned above the Monticello Police Department (MPD) reported the arrest of William Andrew Holbrooks, 41, of Monticello, and charged him with disorderly conduct, reckless conduct and criminal trespass.

During this period officers with the MPD responded to 50 calls for service including 12 escort or convoy, eight stopping suspicious person/vehicle, three each subject needs officer and sick, two each alarm, burglary, juvenile complaint, private property and persons refuse to leave, one each assist motorist, accident, mechanical break down, heart attack, overdose, music/noise complaint, vandalism of property checking location, road hazard, argument and 911 hang up.

In addition, during the above mentioned period the Georgia State Patrol reported the arrest of Faustino Andres Jarquin-Martinez, 31, of Forsyth, and charged him with driving without a license.
