Cougar Wrestlers to Begin Season

Piedmont Academy’s wrestling team will usher in the new season today, Dec. 1, at the Weber School in Atlanta. Matches begin at 4:30 p.m.

Coach Dan Funt is directing the program this season and is expecting quality performances from individual wrestlers.

“I am looking forward to a great season,” Funt said. “We do not have enough to compete in the team aspects of the sport, but I look forward to seeing our guys compete in individual competition.”

The Mat Cougars have several returning wrestlers including Payden Cantera, Mills Smith, Evan Harvey, Malik Reid, Jacob Bowers and Ian Boyd (middle school).

Newcomers on the varsity roster include freshman Chance Perry and senior Austin Corley. Two newcomers to the middle school group are sixth grader Mitch Marsh and fifth grader Jake Scruggs.

Also, Piedmont will continue with its elementary program which is used to introduce wrestlers to the sport.
