Mrs. Kathryn Sessoms Fowler

Mrs. Kathryn Sessoms Fowler of Atlanta, and most recently Monticello, died Friday, Nov. 18, 2011.

Everything she did in life was to better serve her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Thus she lived her life loving others, always helping others, and being a gracious hostess to her family and friends. Everyone who knew her witnessed the love she had for her family and the great joy she experienced by being involved in the lives of her three grandchildren.

Mrs. Fowler was born in Newberry, S.C., on June 11, 1927 and was preceded in death by her husband Albert Clyle Fowler, Jr., her parents Jeremiah Fleet Sessoms and Nellie Brown Sessoms, and her brother Jerry Daniel Sessoms.

Moving to Georgia in 1940 she graduated from Avondale High School in 1944 and then the University of Georgia in 1948.

After working at Grady Memorial Hospital as a Medical Technologist for nine years, she became a mother and homemaker for the remainder of her life.

As a twenty seven year breast cancer survivor, she actively supported the Southeastern Cancer Research Foundation and Lymphedema Society, counseling numerous breast cancer patients. She taught Sunday School her entire adult life and was very active in the Agape Sunday School Class at Briarlake Baptist Church, Decatur.

She is survived by her daughter Jan Gaston and husband Joel of Monticello; her daughter Karen Ford and husband Greg of Atlanta; three grandchildren Kevin Gaston of Jefferson, Kyle Gaston of Birmingham, Ala., Kathleen Ford of Atlanta; and sister Rowena Asbury of Roswell.

The service was held on Sunday, Nov. 20, at Briarlake Baptist Church in Decatur.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Kathryn’s memory to The Retreat Nursing Home, 898 College Street, Monticello, GA. 31064.
