‘Canes Begin Season One-and-One

In their second game of the season, the Varsity Basketball ‘Canes were outscored 97-41 by a very athletic triple A team from Thompson (3B-AAA).
Head Basketball Coach Ernest Scott said, “We took a nice little pounding from them. They had a solid team with 12 good players who, all except one, were over six feet tall, or better. They were aggressive, big, long and athletic, and we just couldn’t match up with them. They were a solid team all the way through their line up, and were too big and athletic for us to compete against.”
It was another story last Friday at home when the ‘Canes played Jackson (4-AAA), another triple A team, and won 62-48 in their season opening game.

Coach Scott said, “I like the kids energy level throughout the game, and we played especially well on defense. It was a good start for us. I still like where we are; we just have to build on the good things we did and work on the ones we didn’t do so well.”
Dee Chapman led the scoring with 20 points, followed by Jaquavious Standifer with 10, Trey Jackson with nine, Chris Thomas with six, Josh Stone with five, Brady McMichael with four, Destin Braux and Josh McMichael with three each and Datrius Stone with two.
The ‘Canes resume action this Saturday, Nov. 26, when they travel to Jackson for a rematch with the Red Devils, with action beginning immediately following the girls varsity game, which is scheduled for 7 p.m.
On Tuesday, November 29 the team is scheduled to play Jones County (3A-AAAA) at home with the girls scheduled to tip off at 6 p.m.
The varsity girls are also 1-1 with a defeat of Jackson and a loss to Thomson.
