Winners Get 12 Right; Equally Close on Score

After an easy contest week for the final week of regular season high school football, the first week of high school playoffs turned out to be a really tough one for football contest players.
When all was said and done, only two players guessed as many as 12 right to have their names placed on the honor roll. And, it was a toss-up which one of them was the winner.
Ed Hall, the boyfriend of Jasper County Extension Director Kasey Reid and Hunter Knox, freshman football player for the Piedmont Cougars both got 12 right. So, it went to the tie-breaker. Piedmont beat Brookwood 48-14 last Friday making the tie-breaker score 62 points. Well, Mr. Hall guessed that 55 points would be scored in the contest. Mr. Knox guessed that 69 points would be scored in the contest. They were each seven points off the 62-point total.

Primary Care Center of Monticello was the sponsor of the week, and Dr. Laura Moore was to give the prize. So, when The News staff considered the dilemma, there was only one solution—draw straws. Or in this case, Tootsie Pops. News staff colored the end of one of the suckers.
Mr. Hall was in Athens when it was time to get the prize, so Miss Reid filled in for him.
Dr. Moore held each of the Tootsie Pops—one grape and one cherry. Mr. Knox said, “ladies first.” So Miss Reid chose the purple Tootsie Pop. But, the red Tootsie Pop was the winner. So, Dr. Moore gave Mr. Knox a $25 cash prize, and The News gave Miss Reid a $10 consolation prize. She’s just happy that Mr. Hall gets another chance at the grand prize. (She wasn’t real happy that he caught up with her though for number of times on the honor roll.)
