Several Burglaries Are Reported

Three hunters reported on October 16 that their hunting camp on McElheney Cross Roads had been burglarized, according to an incident report from the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO),

Reported taken were several pairs of hunting clothes and boots, two rain suits, a trail camera, tree stand safety harness and a lock-on tree stand. Copper wiring was also cut and stolen from the trailer on the property.

Other criminal incidents reported by the JCSO during the period of October 11 through 24 include the following:

•On October 24 a central air conditioner core was stolen from a residence on Meadows Road in Newborn.

•On October 24 a digital camera, video games, a leather case and pornographic videos were stolen from a residence on Glen View Loop in Monticello.

•On October 23 a Polaris 6X6 vehicle was stolen from a residence on Hwy 212 East.

•On October 22 a faded blue Chrysler New Yorker was stolen from a residence on Huff Road in South Jasper County.

•On October 17 a Homelite gas blower, a Poulan chainsaw and a Porter Cable generator were stolen from a residence on Edwards Way in Newborn.

•On October 14 a two ton air conditioning unit was stolen from a residence on Edwards Way in Newborn.

•On October 11 an outside air conditioning unit was stolen from a residence on Eidson Lane in Monticello.

Also, during the period of October 18 through October 25, the JCSO reported the following arrests:

•Kristen Mary Voyles, 21, Monticello—forgery in the second degree, giving false name or address to law enforcement officer, and false statements or writings.

•Charles Lee Terry, 75, Covington—parole violation.

•Donald Evans Mayes, 49, Monticello—driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

•Marcus Lanier Smith, 38, Covington—Jasper County Superior Court bench warrant for failure to appear.

During this same period deputies with the JCSO responded to 144 calls for service including 34 stopping suspicious person/vehicle, 12 mechanical break down, 10 alarm, nine subject needs officer, seven assist motorist, six accident, five each juvenile complaint and threatening/harassing calls, four each theft by taking and road hazard, three each burglary, domestic, pick up prisoner, welfare check trouble unknown, checking location and abandoned vehicle, two each speeding auto, livestock on road, extra patrol, music/noise complaint and vandalism of property, one each prowler report, courtesy ride, intoxicated driver, fire/other, fire/vehicle, special detail wanted/stolen indicated, repossession of vehicle, assist invalid, deliver emergency message, missing person, entering auto and argument.

Also, during the period mentioned above, the Monticello Police Department (MPD) reported the arrest of Ruben Broxton Hardwick, 55, of Monticello, charging him with pedestrian under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

During this period officers with the MPD responded to 81 calls for service including 26 stopping suspicious person/vehicle, 21 escort or convoy, three each entering auto, trouble unknown and vandalism of property, two each domestic, juvenile complaint, private property, music/noise complaint and argument, one each alarm, dog disturbance, courtesy ride accident, intoxicated driver, direct traffic, mechanical break down, fire alarm, theft by taking, subject needs officer, counterfeit, attempt to serve warrant, fraud/theft by deceiving and 911 hang up.

In addition, during this period the Georgia State Patrol reported the arrest of Terry Lynn Mooney, 48, of Shady Dale, and charged him with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs less safe.
