‘Sugar’ Is Best In 8th Annual Mutt Show

‘SUGAR’ IS BEST IN SHOW

Sugar was the recipient of the most ribbons for both first and second place awards to take the Best in Show overall award in the 8th Annual Mutt Show, held Saturday on the Square.

The Mutt Show is sponsored annually by the Jasper County Humane Society. Sugar is the pet of Jenny and Kennan Stoud (mother and son).

Sugar took first place for longest ears, best roll over, and best personality. Sugar also took second for being the youngest dog and in the obstacle course.

There were many participants in addition to Sugar, including Theresa Williams with Harley and Stormie Williams with Baby. Harley took home the first place ribbon in the tail wag category and second in the best dressed category wearing a leather hat and Harley Davidson outfit, and in the best dog trick category performing “call Baby…” Harley called (wined) for Baby (the other family dog).

Baby was the smallest dog in the show, a Chihuahua.

Meredith Tillman’s dog, Laya (Princess Laya), was the youngest dog in attendance on Saturday. She also was a finalist in the best dressed category sporting a pink bow, and pink camo outfit. She also was a finalist in the best trick category.

Duane Nicholas, owner of Reggie Sue, took home two second place ribbons, one for best dog trick, “shake,” and one for being the second oldest dog in the competition at seven years old.

Grayson Bradley, was in charge of Susie. Sarah Calies’ dog. Susie was the oldest dog in the show and took home a first place ribbon for being 15 years old. Susie also received first for being the best dressed dog complete in a princess pink ‘gown’ and tiara. She received second in the owner look alike category, and for being the second smallest dog.

Emily and Rebecca Hanson also had a Sugar who was all white and took home first place in the obedience category for obeying the stay, come, and sit commands.

Lynne Jordan, and her dog Penny took home first in the owner look alike contest. Penny has black and white fur, she sported a Georgia Bulldog scarf which matched Mrs. Jordan’s black pants, white blouse and Georgia Bulldogs scarf. They were both ready for game day!

Penny also competed in the obstacle course, best dressed, and best personality categories.

Sam, aka Samantha who belongs to Stacy James, took home a second place ribbon for best personality.

Myles Proctor, and “Kate” who did very well last year placed first in the obstacle course category and first in the best dog trick category with his stay without a leash and come on command my Mr. Proctor.

Tracy Mitts showed off her dog “Apache’s” talents during the show, placing first in the largest dog category and second in the best tail wag competition.

The mutt show was emceed by C.J. Oliver and the judges for the conpetition were Jennifer Hill and Jo April Brown. The Jasper County Humane Society President is Shelba Jean Morrison.
