Pleas Settle Many Cases In Superior Court
Richard A. Cuengros pled guilty when he appeared in Jasper Superior Court Tuesday, with Judge Hugh V. Wingfield, III, presiding.
His charges were theft by receiving stolen property, use of license plate to conceal identity, driving while licence suspended, giving false name to law enforcement officer, and removing vehicle identification number.
Mr. Cuengros was sentenced to five years on probation with 60-120 days to be served in a state detention center, and fines and fees of $1,432.
Several other guilty pleas were accepted with details listed below:
•Albert S. Sorrells to two counts of sale of hydrocodone—sentenced to five years to be served on probation and $1,832 in fines and fees.
•Ricky H. Gilstrap to possession of methamphetamine—sentenced to five years to be served on probation and $1,882 in fines and fees.
•Brianna M. Pickett to sale of a controlled substance—sentenced to five years to be served on probation and $1,882 in fines and fees.

•Jerrod Farris to possession of marijuana with intent to distribute—sentenced to five years to be served on probation and $1,882 in fines and fees.
•Wonza C. Hargrove to financial transaction card theft and entering auto—sentenced to five years to be served on probation and $157 in fines and fees.
•Steven K Brownlee to sale of hydrocodone—sentenced to five years to be served on probation and $1,882 in fines and fees.
•Scott Duckett to obstruction of officer and disorderly conduct—sentenced to 12 months to be served on probation and $594 in fines and fees.
•Kurt Koprucu to possession of marijuana less than one ounce—sentenced to 12 months to be served on probation and $944 in fines and fees.
•Kelvin Q. Whidby to possession of marijuana less than one ounce—sentenced to 12 months probation and $944 in fines and fees.
•Crystal Tumlin to open container—sentenced to 30 days in the Jasper County Jail.
Action in other cases by the Court included the following:
•A $5,000 bond was granted for Myles Campbell on the charges of battery, criminal trespass and cruelty to children in the third degree.
•The probation of Kenny Leon Strickland, Jr., on the charge of DUI in August of 2010, was revoked due to the new charges of failure to pay fine, failure to show proof of completing court ordered risk reduction program and battery.
Mr. Strickland was sentenced to serve the remainder of his probation period in the Jasper County Jail, consisting of 161 days, with credit for time served since August 5, 2011.
•A bench warrant was issued for the arrest of Twanna Lane for failure to appear to answer to the charge of criminal trespass and four counts of forgery in the first degree.
•Nineteen individuals, or their attorneys pled not guilty to varying charges and will be scheduled for trial at a future date unless charges are negotiated with the district attorney prior to such time.
•Eight other cases were continued for varying reasons.
Also, Jasper County Magistrate Court convened last Friday, Sept. 30, with Judge Kenneth G. Jackson, presiding, with the following action:
•Ivan Bailey was found guilty of criminal trespass and sentenced to 12 months probation, $80 in restitution and $280 in fines.
•Bond was denied and transferred to Superior Court for Myles Campbell on the charges of battery/family violence, criminal trespass and cruelty to children in the third degree.
•bond was denied and transferred to Superior Court for Timothy Wayne Norris on the charges of child molestation, aggravated child molestation and cruelty to children in the first degree.
•bond was denied and transferred to Superior Court for Emmanuel Togba on the charge of rape.
•six civil cases were also processed.
