Middle School Lady Cougars Complete Season with Win

The Piedmont Academy Middle School softball team closed out the 2011 season with an 8-3 win against the Gwinnett Barons Monday.

Matti Smith was the winning pitcher as she worked five innings while recording five strikeouts. Offensively, Haley Tyler was 2-for-2 with an RBI, run scored and stolen base.

Lauren Mosley was 1-for-2 with two RBI and a run scored. Madison Burnham was 1-for-1 with a run while Bridgette Phillips and Anna Martin both scored runs. Taylor Swart was 1-for-3 with a stolen base and run.

“The girls ended the season with a good win against a good team,” said coach Dan Funt. “I was proud of how the girls finished the season. This will be a good group if they continue to improve. We appreciate the support we received from everyone throughout the year.”

Piedmont fell to Windsor in a close 5-2 contest last Thursday.

Swart had a triple and run scored while Jordan Chandler was 2-for-3 with a run.

Caroline Davis was 1-for-3 at the late with an RBI while Martin and Burnham both drew walks.

Mosley and Davis both pitched.
