Lady Canes Earn Seventh Straight Trip to State

The Lady ‘Canes completed their regular season with a 17-13-1 record, and will also finish with a third or fourth place in their region, good enough to advance on to the state tournament.

The team played a double header last week and suffered a loss in both games to Pike County in a duel for second place in the region. They were to travel to Crawford County yesterday for a best two-of-three tournament to determine third and fourth place in the region, too late to report the results in this edition.

However, regardless of the results they will still qualify for the state tournament. The results will determine their seed in the tournament and the team they will have to play in the first round.

Athletic Director and Head Softball Coach Chris Jenkins said, “We beat Crawford 2-0 earlier in the year. If we throw strikes and play good defense we can do it again.”

In the case of a win or a loss, they will have their work cut out for them.

If they lose they will be traveling to Cochran, to take on the number one seed in Region 3-AA, the Bleckley County Lady Royals, with a 22-4-1 record.

If they win they will be traveling to Brooklet, to take on the number two seed in Region 3-AA, the Southeast Bulloch County Lady Yellow Jackets with a record of 18-4-2.

The first round is scheduled for next Wednesday, October 12.
