Ronnie Payne Gets 13, Wins with Tie Breaker

RONNIE PAYNE, REP. SUSAN HOLMES

Veteran football contest player Ronnie Payne collected a prize of $25 from state Rep. Susan Holmes after winning last week’s football contest. Rep. Holmes was the contest sponsor for the week.

Mr. Payne was one of only two entrants to correctly guess the winner of 13 of the games listed in last week’s contest. No one could get more than 14 right, as the contest planner accidentally listed a game, Tennessee vs. Buffalo, that is not played until this Saturday.

Mr. Payne and Susan Hinshaw both got 13 right, but Mr. Payne guessed 47 points would be scored in Monticello’s 26-13 loss to Pike County. He was closest to the 39 points with his guess of 47. Ms. Hinshaw guessed 52 point would be scored.

Four other players got 12 right to have their names added to the grand prize honor roll. They included Ervin Fulton, Mary Tumlin and Kasey Reid, all of whom were added to the honor roll. In addition, Lawson Fulton got his name on the honor roll for the second time this year. Twenty-four players had 11 right, but it takes 12 to make the honor roll….even when one game is thrown out (sorry).

Whoever wins the grand prize will receive four tickets to the Chick-Fil-A Bowl in Atlanta on New Year’s Eve.

This week, one lucky player will pick up a prize worth $25 from Steve Currie Inc., with the NAPA store being the site for next week’s prize photo.

Anyone can win, a veteran or a newcomer to the game, young and old, male or female, the odds are the same. Just be sure to get your entry to The News office, 237 West Washington Street, Monticello, about a half block west of the Square before 5 p.m. tomorrow, Sept. 30.

Just fill in the entry blank found on page 15 of today’s newspaper (or write your guesses on a plain piece of paper), and submit to the office before 5 p.m. on Friday.
