Absentee Ballots Available; Registration Deadline Near

The last day to register to vote in the upcoming city election and the special election in the county is Tuesday, Oct. 11.

Absentee ballots for those elections are available at the registrar’s office in the Courthouse now.

Monticello voters will decide who will be their leaders for the next two or four years, depending on the post, as the city has established staggered terms.

Monticello voters will also join the rest of the county in deciding if the one percent Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) should be continued for another six years. In addition, there will be a question on the ballot concerning alcohol sales on Sunday in the county.

Jasper County Chief Registrar Carole Norris said the state did a large purge of voters in March of this year, so anyone who has not voted recently should contact her to make sure his or her name is still registered.

Advance voting, in person, will begin on Monday, Oct. 17, and be available daily from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. until the Friday before the election on November 8. All county precincts will be open.
